Default Sooooooooo many monsters

Ok first off, I come from the traditional RPG's (bards tale, ultima, baulders, etc...) so maybe I am a bit biased, but how can anyone replay this game?

The fact that a single 2" x 2" area can have 20+ monsters is ridiculous. I have finished the game and I found that the only reason I stayed with it was some sort of sick mentality I have on beating a game that has given me so frustration. There is absolutely no way I'd play a second character because from what I can tell nothing changes. I still have to grind and grind and grind my way through areas that upon each update have 20% more creatures. The only thing that changes is my frustration level because to fight from 1 city to the next is so monotonous. Yes I can hire a runner and in fact I can run myself however, the missions are much harder and in a sense some of them are ridiculous. Not ridiculously hard just ridiculous how many creatures can spawn in a single area. Now every area has mesmers and creatures that slow you down or knock you down....

This game somewhat reminds me of the Doom3/Quake4 games where they make things harder by throwing more at you versus making the creatures smarter. Baulders gate had some very tough area's to fight through but it was because the creatures had intelligence where as with GW, they just throw another half dozen or so creatures there to make it harder....

I fully expect replies that say if I want something easy go play D2, but that's not what I saying. Hard yes, but repetitive no. In fact, once I get into an area where I am attacking zillions of creatures there is almost now way to run because every area where I run to, something else pops out. I find almost no dead zones in the world where I run to either to escape or just rest and heal..

I question whether or not I will buy chapter 2 because by then I expect the amount of creatures to be tripled in each area, the running to be dead since you will need 3 runners per team and the overall game play to be beyond boring since it will take you hours to get somewhere because of the endless creatures that pop up from the ground....maybe its just me but I need a break from this game, its just too same old same old.....

I dont get where you are running to the next city and having to fight 20+ monsters.

If you aggro smart and wait to see patrol paths of monsters- you should never hit over 8 or so monsters at one time, and thats just assuming you are hit with 2 groups.

There are very few places that are run just for the propose of the first person not being able to get there naturally. Most of it is trying to get a low lvl character somewhere they shouldn't be.

And theres only select places in the game "Packed" with monsters to get your angry, and these are usually places that the game doesn't want you to easily go too anyway (like the path from Beacon's Perch to Camp Rancor).

And updates throwing more enemies in? The only update types that effect enemies I see are ones LOWERING the number of them or lowering the quality of stuff they drop, and ones that make them smarter (like the AoE fix).

Sometimes I feel like i'm playing a different game from some people :\

I'm sorry, but if you're fighting 20 enemies at a time, it's because you or someone in your party sucks. Either you aggroed way too many (why not ask the ranger to pull?) or you're somewhere where enemies spawn or attack on a timer and you're not killing them fast enough (maybe someone should call targets so the group can focus fire?).

I replay this game because it's nice to go back to old parts of it and still have it be a challenge. My level 20 minion master can just wade through Nolani Academy on her own, but my level 9 elementalist needs some help, and even then things can get hairy.

As far as having a place to rest, that's what you get when you kill the monsters in an area (and possibly a patrol or two).

pvp hard? Some missions are a bit tricky yes. A party needs to be careful and use their wits in those. Some are quite hard if you do not know the mission yet (Thunderhead Keep, Elona). And the last missions are fairly hard (supposed to be hard, I think). But in general? Nah. Try pvp (8 vs 8 in tombs): after that, the pve stuff will seem tame.

There is some truth in there sometimes being too many monsters about. Especially in the SF and the titan quests. The titan quests really are hard, not because they are so complicated, but because of the sheer number of big critters.

Wow. Alots of buttons and skeletons. O.o

Has anyone ever gone down towards Maraharan's Grotto from that Iron Mines of Muladane? There's like 40 imps in one little path. I tried to lure some with my henchies but we all got a major ice spike. Had to go around the long way.

Otherwise, I haven't really noticed it being a big problem in missions. Grind isn't progressing through a series of missions, it's stopped next to a healing spring for 4 hours bashing rats from levels 8-15.

I can see this as taking awhile if you have alot of defensive classes in your group. (IE, 2 monks, 3 warriors, 1 ele). Taking henchmen is pretty much the easiest way to plow through enemies.

Strength in numbers. Don't like it, you'll have to PvP. Although, I'd prefer to fight 20 enemies than a group of 8 that can drop a member of the party in less than 2 seconds.

my favourite monster group in Bard's Tale:

99 Berserker and

Is this thread about WoW or Guild Wars monster groups? Besides, the graphics are cartoony becuase it's Warcraft. Warcraft has always looked cartoony.

to the OP:

take a break. I have been playing since the last beta. I was there the first day it went live. After a month, I was fed up. I left from around July til mid-Sept. Now I'm back in it and loving it. I have 6 chars, one finished, one at Aurora's and the other 4 in Ascalon (all in between Ascalon and Nolani's). Yes, I hate post-sear Ascalon, but the other areas I've only done once or twice, and it's getting far more fun, especially now the AI/AoE changes have happened, and I'm also more wise (tho still useless ) on how skills work. Even just planning the profs is kinda fun. So yeah, I'd say give it a break, forget all about it, and come back in a month or so. See what's changed. You'll enjoy it far more

This battle was awesome because if you won the initiative and attacked first, cast MIBL (Mangar's Mind Blade) which did something like 40 points of damage to everyone group (doesn't sound like a lot but it would kill 90% of them)...

Back to the original topic, yes I don't normally agro 20 creatures at a time, but there are times when there are at least 10+ monsters even if I am going slow and pulling them....My point is just that the game has slowed down for me soooo much each update that adds more and more creatures to certain areas. Its funny because if they are doing this to prevent runing it probably works in reverse since now people who didn't like to run now do....I ask you do you want to spend the hour it takes to battle through to get to the next area or just run there?
2 months ago I would just battle through but now the amout of monsters makes me just want to be run there.....funny how the best intentions might just backfire....

I agree, it just becomes more monotonous. I can't imagine playin more than one character because in the end there isn't anything else.. no other activity like crafting or even farming (which I love but not even needed in the game). Yes there is PvP, but for me atleast it is as fun as watching paint dry.

Still the game was fun and perhaps after a brief respite, when chapter 2 comes out it will be fresh again. My advise is not to stress out, play some other games, and you may play GW again.

The new Bard's Tale...or the one that came out last year was very funny. I'm playin Dragonquest 8 right now, talk about great cartoony artwork.
